Can a person be a little sinner? Can a Christian sin just a little and be acceptable in the eyes of God? Can a person commit a little murder and be ok in the sight of God? I wonder if a man could commit a little adultery and he tell his wife that he did such a thing and would he think that every thing would be ok with his wife? Would this same act be ok with God? (That is the one with whom it really matters anyway.) There are any number of sins we could apply this to also. Let us consider can a person be a little idolatrous and think that God will accept this? Can a preacher preach just a little false doctrine and stand before God on the judgment day and think that God will say, “…Well done, thou good and faithful servant, … enter thou into the joys of thy Lord, … prepared for you from the foundations of the world” (Matthew 25:21, 23, 34). A person could find every list of sins that written is in the New Testament and ask the same question with each sin listed. “Can I commit a little…” and be ok with God? Consider the sins listed in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; Galatians 5:19-21; and 1 John 2:15-17 with the above question.
Someone might say that, “we are all sinners (Romans 3:9, 23), and I will commit sin anyway, so what difference does it make?” “I am going to do little things and make mistakes so how can I help but sin just a little?” My question would be, “will this kind of sinning stop?” Another question, “Can we sin just a little and be alright with God?” Someone might respond, “Can I keep from sinning?”
There is a difference in doing something inadvertently and doing something outright wrong. Can a person dress immodestly on accident? When a person takes off their shirt, is that something done inadvertently or is it done on purpose? If a person wears a shirt that is too short or too tight has that person done that inadvertently or have they done that on purpose? When you put your cloths on in the morning, do those cloths just jump out of the closet or do you go searching them out and put them on?
The same can be said of any of those sins, adultery, drunkenness, witchcraft, idolatry or any other sin. Someone might say that they got caught up in the moment and committed sin. Can a person say, “No” to those moments? This is not all though:
Consider Romans 6:1-2 “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?” Verse 6; “Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.” Read further, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin; but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine, which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness” (Romans 6:12-18).
So it really comes down to what do you want to do? Do you want to serve God with all of your heart, soul and mind? Or do you want to just play at the religion that is placed before you? Do you want you and your family to fit in with the world or fit in with God? The church cannot force anyone to serve God! This is an all-volunteer service. You have to want to serve God, not just partially but with all of self.
We need to look at these things in light of eternity! Our eternal destiny depends upon how we live in this world? We will be in eternity a lot longer than we are here on earth. Let the world know that you are for the Lord by living and talking like a Christian ought to act and talk. Don’t sin little by little! Don’t sin at all! Yes it will take work, but we can do it if we try with God’s help.
Love, Keith
