We have seen the price of gasoline go way up. It got so bad that some had to pay close to a hundred dollars to fill up their automobile. Who would have ever thought of that? Some of us can remember when five dollars would pretty much fill up the car. Those times seem to be lost forever!
Sin has an awful cost. When Paul by inspirations said, “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21) This passage informs us that those who commit such sins will not inherit the kingdom of God. What a price to pay! God has promised us an inheritance. What a beautiful inheritance it is also. Just consider and remember the language that is used to describe heaven and think that if we commit sin we are missing all of the inheritance.
Think of all the families that have paid and high price because of the sins that are listed above. Think of the drugs and alcohol that have destroyed families. Some times the cost of this sin is paid by others who are not participating in the sin. Think of the high price some families have paid that have had a loved one killed by someone who was under the influence of these sins. Adultery and fornication have caused some to pay a high price. These sins have destroyed families emotionally and financially. They have destroyed the health of some. What a price to pay and it is a high price.
Roman 6:23 also tells us that there is a high price to pay for sin, “For the wages of sin is death…” One soul is lost for eternity because they think that they will not be found out or we think of the pleasure that sin can bring to us.
The ultimate cost of sin is that we will be lost in a devil’s hell for eternity! Part of that punishment is being separated from God for that same length of time (2 Thessalonians 1:9)! Another part of punishment is that of being in flames of fire for eternity (Luke 16:23; Matthew 25:41). Who want to go through that? This is the high cost of sin!
Sin cost God His Son. When the first sin was committed, God began unfolding His precious plan of salvation of man from sin. Genesis 3:15 records, man had sinned and God is telling of His plan to redeem man from sin. God’s plan was to send His Son to die for man. (This is the bruising of the heel that is mentioned in Genesis 3:15. The bruising of the head is looking forward to the resurrection of God’s Son from the dead.) So the price of sin was awfully high to God, who paid the price for each person with His Son. Consider also John 3:16 and the high cost that God paid. “…He gave His only begotten Son.” That is a might high price to pay for some who have no regard for who God is and what He wants. Yet He “wants all men to be saved” (2 Timothy 2:4) but not all men will be saved. What a high price to pay when some are so unconcerned about their own salvation themselves.
Another Deity who paid a high price for sin was Jesus. It cost Jesus His life. Christ gave His blood for atonement for all of mankind! Some will not use the atoning blood of Jesus at all but trample it under foot as though it was an unholy thing! We best be careful with the precious blood of Christ.
What changes have you made due to the high cost of gasoline? What changes do you need to make due to the high cost of sin?
Love, Keith
