Who is the Devil?

As Christians we are to put on the whole armor of God. (Ephesians 6: 10ff). We are not just to put on the armor but the Bible says we are to put on the whole armor of God. The reason we are to put on the whole armor of God is because of the devil. We are to put on the whole armor of God because of the wiles of the devil (6:11). We are to put on the whole armor of God because we are not in a physical fight, but we are in...

Charge!

When we first hear this word there may be different mental pictures develop within our mind. Paul uses this word with Timothy a number of times. There are different Greek words Paul uses that are translated “charge” in our New Testament but they have basically the same meaning. The meaning is “command.” Now go back to our pictures developed in our minds, with this meaning. A man might think of the command to charge an enemy. A woman might think of a plastic card with items to purchase. It is still a command! With this...Continue reading

The Privilege of Prayer

Privilege of Prayer. Have you ever considered the power and greatness of God? Have you ever contemplated that God spoke and the entire universe was created? Psalm 33:9 states,” For he spake, and it was done, he commanded, and it stood fast.” “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” (Genesis 1:3).  Even down to the smallest detail, God planned and created everything. “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead:...

A Good Day

How do we have a good day? How can one day be a good day and another day being not so good, and even sometimes bad? Paul gives us a formula to have a good day. If we apply these principles to each day; we will have a good day. Having a good day is hard work. It takes a lot of effort, but it is worth the work and effort. Here are the principles: First is our attitude is important. Philippians 4:4-7 states, “Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Let...Continue reading

Causes of Salvation

The word “causes” is defined as – to bring about, to bring into existence. When we think about salvation we need to know the “causes” of this blessing. As with any topic we must go to the Bible to find the answer. God of course is the original cause of salvation. God created the heavens and the earth (Gen. 1:1). When you read about the creation you find God did it in an orderly manner. Think about it, if man had been created on day one, what would he have stood on, what would he...

Finally, Brethren!

Paul makes this statement as he is concluding the book of 2 Corinthians he states, “Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mine, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you” (2 Corinthians 13:11). We do not know when the last time will be when we will meet together. It may have already happen! It maybe sometime in the future; we need to be ready to say “finally.” Yet, as we think of the end of our meeting together, we must also think of...

What Am I Worth to the Church?

There is the tendency during the last few years; it seems, to build up the church numerically, without giving much consideration to the genuiness of conversions. This practice has resulted in many unconverted people being deceived into thinking that they are really Christians. To be a Christian means more than merely having one’s name on a church register. Almost every congregation is carrying a certain amount of “dead weight” in the persons of inactive church members. Consider carefully Matthew 3:10; “And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every...Continue reading

Liberty

Galatians 5:1 states: “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Paul is dealing with a problem the church was having during the first century, but he speaks of liberty and bondage. This subject is one that ought to be of utmost importance to us today also. During the first century there were those who were trying to bind the Old Testament upon those striving to become Christians. The battle (Luke by inspiration uses the terms, “dissension” and “disputation” in Acts...Continue reading

Every Member Matters!

In the twelfth chapter of the book of 1 Corinthians one finds the church compared to the physical body. Within that chapter one will find the foot, the hand, the ear, the eye all mentioned. The Holy Spirit through Paul states that all of these are necessary. What if the body were made up of a foot? What if the entire body were a hand, or an ear, or an eye? How would such a body function? Each and every part of the physical body is important, and each member of the church, the Lord’s...Continue reading

Father’s Day

Father’s Day may conjure up many emotional memories about our fathers. Some of them may be positive and some may be negative. Fathers can do that, while when we think of Mothers our emotions are mostly positive. When we think of father’s we think of them as the hard disciplinarian of the family. When we think of our mothers, she is the one we ran to when daddy got through with us! Yet there are loving memories of our father. Let us consider some memories that cause these loving thoughts. As we think of our...Continue reading
