We use the eagle as a mascot for many a sports team.  Many high schools and college use the eagle as their mascot.  We consider this bird a magnificent specimen of power, agility, and ability.  God uses this magnificent bird as an illustration to His people many times in the scriptures.  One is in Exodus 19:4 “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.”  Another time in when Moses is giving his farewell address.  Deuteronomy 32:11-12 Moses says, “As an eagle...Continue reading

We all are looking for something.  When I go golfing, I have to look for the golf ball.  When I go fishing I look for where the fish are.  We also are looking for a house.  You may be looking at something for your house; it might be carpet, paint or wallpaper. The Lord said in Luke 9:62, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” The word “fit” means well suited for. This week I want us to consider the word “must.” Webster defines this word as “obligated, required, compelled.” Vine’s as “impersonal verb signifying it is necessary or one must.” Strong as “third person singular active present, it is necessary.”  Then the finally dictionary Thayer defines this word as, “it is necessary, there is need of it, it behooves, is right and proper.” The word “must is used 132 times in the King James Version of the Bible. Preachers sometimes invite listeners to pray something such as, “God, I am sorry I have sinned. Please forgive me and let Jesus come into my heart. I thank you for forgiving me and giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen” The preacher then says, “Since you have asked Christ into your life, you are now His child, and your sins are forgiven.” The problem, however, is that the promise of forgiveness is from a man, not God. We read in the Old Testament of God speaking to Moses from the burning bush, commissioning him to lead the chosen people out of Egypt.
