Terry Frizzell For many years, faithful men have been sounding the alarm at a gradual departure from the truth which is among us. The day has now come where we can no longer be passive about the battle cry. In many instances the distinctiveness of the church has disappeared. This would be a tremendous blessing if it was because the world was now following the truth, but this is not the case. The distinctiveness is disappearing because the church is becoming more like the world. On March 21, 1996, an article appeared in the...

After I’m Gone
Joseph D. Chase Hebrews 11:4 records these amazing words, “he being dead still speaks.” This passage reveals that the good testimony of Able lives on even thought he has gone the way of all the earth (Josh. 23:14) a living legacy from the grave. What will we leave behind to speak for us when we are dead? Will it be like Joshua’s influence that lived on in the generation after his death? “And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred...Continue reading
Eagles
We use the eagle as a mascot for many a sports team. Many high schools and college use the eagle as their mascot. We consider this bird a magnificent specimen of power, agility, and ability. God uses this magnificent bird as an illustration to His people many times in the scriptures. One is in Exodus 19:4 “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.” Another time in when Moses is giving his farewell address. Deuteronomy 32:11-12 Moses says, “As an eagle...Continue reading
For What Are You Looking?
We all are looking for something. When I go golfing, I have to look for the golf ball. When I go fishing I look for where the fish are. We also are looking for a house. You may be looking at something for your house; it might be carpet, paint or wallpaper. Sometimes I have to look for the car keys, or my glasses. When we are in the depths of looking could we say that we are seeking these things? While these things are physical, what about the spiritual side? Do we seek the...Continue reading
Fit for the Kingdom of God
The Lord said in Luke 9:62, “No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” The word “fit” means well suited for. When the ploughman was out in the field watching his plough instead of watching where he needed to go, he was not suitable for the job. You see God wants people who are suited for the job He has given each of us to do. God wants people who want to do the best job they can for Him. God wants people who...Continue reading
Must
This week I want us to consider the word “must.” Webster defines this word as “obligated, required, compelled.” Vine’s as “impersonal verb signifying it is necessary or one must.” Strong as “third person singular active present, it is necessary.” Then the finally dictionary Thayer defines this word as, “it is necessary, there is need of it, it behooves, is right and proper.” The word “must is used 132 times in the King James Version of the Bible. The word that is translated “must” is used 104 times in the New Testament. This word is translated...Continue reading
Does saying “The Sinner’s Prayer” Save?
Preachers sometimes invite listeners to pray something such as, “God, I am sorry I have sinned. Please forgive me and let Jesus come into my heart. I thank you for forgiving me and giving me eternal life. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen” The preacher then says, “Since you have asked Christ into your life, you are now His child, and your sins are forgiven.” The problem, however, is that the promise of forgiveness is from a man, not God. God has never promised to respond to “the sinner’s prayer.” Prayer is a privilege for...Continue reading
“What Is in Thine Hand?”
We read in the Old Testament of God speaking to Moses from the burning bush, commissioning him to lead the chosen people out of Egypt. But Moses objected, saying that no one would believe him to have been sent by God. When asked what was in his hand, Moses answered, “A rod.” The Lord told him to put it down. As we know, it became a serpent. When, at God’s direction, he caught it up, it became a rod again. God is powerful and He could have chosen anything in the universe to use as...Continue reading

Laws and Opinions
Galatians 5:6 says, “For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision: but faith which worketh by love.” There are some things that do not matter. There are some things we may do any way we desire. There are other things for which God has specific laws. When God has told us to do something, we must do exactly what God has said. If he has told us how to do it, we must do it the way he said to do it, but if God has told us to do something and has...Continue reading
