The Voice of God

Three times God the Father audibly spoke during the life of His Son. One was after His baptism (Matthew 3:17 “And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”) Another time is at the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus has with Him Peter, James, and John. Peter acting like he did most of the time, spoke. He mentioned building three tabernacles: one for Him, one for Moses and one for Elias. This was a good thought as far as Peter was concerned. He was thinking of honoring...Continue reading

Why Quit?

“For Demas hath forsaken my, having loved this present world, and it departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia” (2 Timothy 4:10). People quit the church with varying degrees. Some do quit the church altogether. The cause of this could be because of many some think reasons. The devil acted is some way to discourage these people so they gave up on God and what He has done for them; they quit! The devil works through people. “But he turned, and said unto Peter. Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offense...

Power

When any one considers a word, this word must be considered in the context in which it is used. The word can then be discerned of the meaning, which the author had intended. Word can have different meanings. Let us consider the word “power.” First when dealing with different languages it is not always easy to translate from one language into another. Liberty

Galatians 5:1 states: “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” Paul is dealing with a problem the church was having during the first century, but he speaks of liberty and bondage. This subject is one that ought to be of utmost importance to us today also. During the first century there were those who were trying to bind the Old Testament upon those striving to become Christians. The battle (Luke by inspiration uses the terms, “dissension” and “disputation” in Acts...Continue reading

How Are We Doing?

“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:13). There must have been a problem, in Corinth, of people comparing Paul with other people. The context of 2 Corinthians bears this out; “Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?” (2 Corinthians 3:1). Also, “For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give...

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. It was a time to remember those who had sacrificed for our freedom. We must continue to remember that the freedoms that we enjoy are not free. It has cost some life, some limbs, others liberty. Romans 12:7 reads, “Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.” Every generation has a war to fight. Our grandfathers had WWI our fathers WWII then our generation had Korea or Vietnam. Today’s generation has Iraq. Each one of...Continue reading

Time’s Up!

Have you ever waited until the last minute to do something; like buy a Christmas present? Did you think that you had all the time in the world and when you went to buy the present there were no more of that item left in the store? There are some who must think this way about spiritual matters as well. Felix may have had this same idea when he said, “Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee” (Acts 24:25). Jesus may have been teaching the...Continue reading

Lessons from the Past

God set a law into effect at the beginning of time. Paul states it as such: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” (Galatians 6:7-9). Let us remember that we will harvest what we have sown. There are...Continue reading

Mothers

“Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law” (Romans 13:7-8). “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth” (Ephesians 6:1-3). There is a place of honor given to certain individuals,...Continue reading

A Four Letter Word

We are all exposed to four letter words. We hear them on the television, radio or maybe even the internet. Kids hear them at school. Rap artist have been using them and are now finally being condemned for it. Others may use these words; even some who attend the services here may use these little words. Not all four letter words are bad: love is a four letter word, so is work (some may not like this word but it is not at all a bad word); sing also is a four letter word that...Continue reading
