Monday is Memorial Day. We are to be thankful to those who have served in the military, who have died. Some died in service while some have died since serving. My father and father-in-law both served during World War 2. I have an uncle who served during Korea. Several of you have served in Viet Nam. We have statues that are scattered throughout our country that honors those who have served. This article will be about memorials. In Exodus 12 God set up a memorial for the children of Israel. It is called the Passover....

Another Step
We have one high school graduate. As a person graduates from one level to the next we often say these graduates are taking a new step in their life. It is so true that new adventures are opening up for each student. Some steps are bigger than others, but they are steps along the pathway of life. The Bible talks of a pathway of life, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat; because...Continue reading
Mothers
“Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth” (Ephesians 6:2-3). This Sunday is the day we have set aside for the honoring of our mother’s. There is a reason why it is the second Sunday in May. It is for a very tender reason; Anna Marie Jarvis wanted to remember her mother who had passed from this life on the second Sunday in May 1905. It was to remember her mother, Ann Jarvis. Mother’s day was...Continue reading
Apparel Does Say Something – Tom Wacaster
There was a most interesting editorial in the Dallas Morning News on Mat 2, 2001. It was entitled: “You’re right to be wary of gangsta chic,” by Leonard Pitts. I must admit that there were two words that caught my attention, mainly because I was unfamiliar with the meaning. Gangsta is slang for “gangster (the “r” has migrated to who knows where), and chic means “style or urban fashion in clothing.” The gist of the article was avoidance of certain contact with strangers who dress in a style that classifies them with a specific element...Continue reading
History
Romans 15:4 states, “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.” This year we have an high school senior. There are several others who are graduating from milestone to another; they are graduating from either kindergarten or sixth grade, for this we are thankful and grateful. We are surprised that our children are growing up so fast, from children toward adulthood! Some can remember when these young people were held in arms. This is history! How we love this kind...Continue reading
Have YOU Counted the Cost?
There is a religious song by the title above. The lyrics are: “There’s a line that is drawn by rejecting our Lord, Where the call of His Spirit is lost, and you hurry along with the pleasure mad throng, Have you counted, have you counted the cost? You may barter your hope of eternity’s morn, for a moment of joy at the most, for the glitter of sin and the things it will win, Have you counted, have you counted the cost? While the door of His mercy is open to you, E’er the depth...Continue reading
Gospel Demands
Titus 2:11-14, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Within this passage there are some things that we are to deny ourselves. They are ungodliness and worldly lust....Continue reading
Why Did Jesus Die?
Neither Pilate nor Herod could find any reason for Jesus to die. “And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him; No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him” (Luke 23:13-15). The Jews of that day had determined...Continue reading
A Remodel Life
Romans 12:1-2 states, “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.” The word “transformed” is the idea of metamorphosed; it is the idea of change. We may remodel or change our physical house. If we relate what is necessary to remodel our physical house...Continue reading
The Church Ain’t Doing Nothing
Raymond Elliott – How often have we heard that statement from a brother in Christ? And it is to be admitted that we often fail in fulfilling the many obligations that God has given us. But there are some pertinent observations that need to be made relative to this broad statement. First of all, we could say that the brother who makes such an accusation has taken to himself some of the attributes that are considered belonging only to God. In Psalm 139 we learn that God is omnipresent and omniscient. Thus, for a brother...
