Paul gave Timothy a duty in 1 Timothy 6:20, “O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called.” The word “keep” has the idea of isolation; to watch; i.e. be on guard. The word “committed” has the idea of a deposit; i.e. trust. “Profane words” are empty words. The duty of Timothy is to guard that which was deposited into his trust. That is the Gospel, 2 Tim. 2:13-14, “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me,...Continue reading

What Can We Do?
This is an interesting question due to the political climate today. We think that we are just one citizen and what can we do to help. There is always a lot we can do. One thing for sure we do not need to do nothing! That is a sure way to lose ground and let the enemy do what they please. This is also an interesting question due to our religious climate today too. Yes, there are things you can do to help yourself and also help the church. What can you do? Here they...Continue reading
Must
This week I want us to consider the word “must.” Webster defines this word as “obligated, required, compelled.” Vine’s as “impersonal verb signifying it is necessary or one must.” Strong has “third person singular active present, it is necessary.” Then the finally dictionary Thayer defines this word as, “it is necessary, there is need of it, it behooves, is right and proper.” The word “must” is used 132 times in the King James Version of the Bible. The word that is translated “must” is used 104 times in the New Testament. This word is translated...Continue reading
Signs for the Times!
How many wasted miles, injuries and deaths would be avoided if only people read signs?! God must, think the same thing, as He watches men fly down the devil’s highway ignoring all the road signs. It pays to watch for signs! DO NOT ENTER! “Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away” (Proverbs 4:14-15). “Blessed is the man that walked not in the counsel of the ungodly, not standeth in the way of sinners,...Continue reading
Does this Seem Ridiculous?
Hello…Yes…Oh, you’re Johnny’s teacher. I’ve been meaning to call you…No; he isn’t planning to be in school this year. You see he has so much work to do at the church – he has Bible school lessons, church services, youth activities and such takes up his time; then there are daily devotionals at home and other interests, so there isn’t time left for school… Well, yes I know that school is important, and I know that you are doing a fine job with the kids in this community – and I’ve been intending to write...Continue reading
Are you a Spirit Led Person?
Is the Spirit leading you in your daily life? Yes, this is the Holy Spirit and is He leading you in your daily life? Many people in the religious world say yes to this question, but I wonder if they understand what it means to be led by the Spirit. Do YOU know what it means to be led by the Spirit? Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” How are we lead by the Spirit? How does the Holy Spirit lead us...Continue reading
Penknife Religion
We read in the weeping prophet Jeremiah’s book, “And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three of four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.” Later we find this weeping prophet to told to, “Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.” How sad to see someone treat...Continue reading
Warning Signs
Last week we began this lesson about warning signs. We have them all around us when we drive in this area. If we do not heed them we can be in serious trouble. The Bible has warning signs contained within its pages and if we do not heed those warnings we will be in serious trouble at the last day. Please consider Matthew 25. It is a warning sign itself and tells us of that last day when Jesus shall judge us and separate us as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. Are...Continue reading
Look Out!
When one takes their driving test, there is a section on the test that deals with road signs. There are many different kinds of road signs. Around here lately we have had our share of road signs that are warning signs. Some are on the interstates highways, some on our surface roads. We must heed these warnings or pay the consequences. One such sign would be that a bridge is out. If one traveled the road that had this kind of sign on it, and did not heed that sign there are dire consequences that...Continue reading
Will a Man Rob God?
The setting for Malachi’s great question can be summed up in this manner. Babylonian Captivity is no longer fresh on the minds of the Israelites. Jerusalem has been restored, the temple has been rebuilt and prosperity has replaced despair. No, they no longer serve Baal, but they are again in very real danger of leaving Jehovah God. The Jews go through the motions of ritualistic religion – saying and doing the right things in form – but their collective heart is just not set on fervent, zealous pursuit of holiness, righteousness, and love of God....Continue reading
