There are several ways in which we can express our thanksgiving to God. One is by sacrifice. “I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord” (Psalm 116:117). Leviticus 22:29 states, “And when ye will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving unto the Lord, offer it at your own will.” Milligan states in the Scheme of Redemption about the Thank offering these words: “The victim offered might be either a male or a female of the heard or of the flocks. With the animal was also brought leavened and unleavened bread. Of course, the leavened bread was not for sacrifice, but for food: for neither leaven nor honey was allowed to be burned on the Altar. The owner of the victim killed it as usual, and the Priests, the sons of Aaron, sprinkled the blood on the Altar, and burned all the fat on it. The breast and the right shoulder were both consecrated to the Priests as their portion, the former as a Wave-Offering, and the latter as a Heave-Offering. The rest of the sacrifice was eaten by the owner and his friends. This was the only sacrifice of which the people were allowed to partake.” (The Scheme of Redemption, by R. Milligan 1972 page 141).
Another is prayer. “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving” (Colossians 4:2). The one way in which we can offer thanksgiving to God, in this article, is through songs or praise.
Psalm 18:49 “Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.”
Psalm 26:7 “That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works”
Psalm 30:4 “Sing unto the Lord, o Ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.
Psalm 35:18 “I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people”
Psalm 69: 30 “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.”
Psalm 92:1 “It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High.”
Psalm 95:1-2 “O come, let us sing unto the Lord: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.”
Psalm 100:2, 4 “Sever the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.”
Psalm 106: 1-2 “Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endurethfor ever. Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? Who can shew forth all his praise?
Psalm 107:21-22 “Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.”
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Love, Keith
