Peter said, “”For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning” (2 Peter 2:20).
Over the last several years we in America have been great concerned about pollution. We are concerned about the pollution that is in the air. We are concerned about the pollution in the water. We are concerned about the pollution upon our land. We ought to be concerned about these things for if we don’t not watch out for them who will? We need to be concerned about our world and the things that are in our world. Are we equally concerned about our soul and if we are allowing it to be polluted?
Pollution is from the Greek word miasma. The English word denotes “defilement” the vices of the ungodly which contaminate a person in his intercourse with the world. From Vine’s Expeditionary dictionary of Biblical Words, (Copyright 1985 Thomas Nelson Publishers). Are we concerned about our soul being defiled? How can we defile our soul?
There are many passages that will tell us how are soul is defiled. “Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such thing shall not inherit the kingdom of God” (Galatians 5:19-21). “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6”9-10). “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, all liars, shall have their part in the lake of fire which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
We can cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh which would pollute our soul. “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners and purify your hearts, ye double minded” (James 4:8). This command to cleanse our hands and purify our hearts would not be given if we could not do it. God loved us enough to provide us a way to wash the filth of sin away: “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood” (Revelation 1:5). We also must remain in contact to that cleansing blood: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
All that reached the age of accountability have a polluted soul and are in need of contacting the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ. What will you do? Will you remain in a defiled or polluted state? Will you come to the fountain of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ and be made free from defilement and pollution? That choice my friend is yours! If you have been cleansed then remain close to the cleansing blood of the Lamb of God.
You can be free from the pollution that is in the world but you must do something. The same is true with our world. If we want our world to be cleansed and free from pollution we must work at it. Let us do the same with our soul.
