After Baptism What Am I to Do?

Wendell Winkler (Editor’s note: This is not just for those who have recently been baptized but this is for all who have been baptized.  Sometimes we forget what we are to do after being baptized and need to reminded of what to do.  Let this article remind us of what to do.) I AM TO WALK IN NEWNESS OF LIFE. Being “buried with him by baptism into death… even so we also should walk in newness of life” (Rom 6:4). The man who has been born of God does not commit (continue living that old...Continue reading

We Must Be Set for the Defense

by Bob Patterson             In 1 Timothy 3:15 we have the church described as “the pillar and ground of the truth.” Sad to say, with some the pillar has become pillow and they are fast asleep on the truth, and the ground has become ever shifting! Should such be characteristic of any member of the Lord’s church? If this kind of attitude and disposition does characterize any member of the Lord’s church, then there are several areas that would automatically become suspect. The first area would be the truth itself! Obviously, to the person who...Continue reading

Are Bible Classes a Waste of Time and Money?

In the mind of some people Bible classes are not important.  They may even consider them just “a waste of time.” What should our attitude be toward them? Why do we have Bible classes on Sunday and Wednesday? Do we have classes just because others have them? Do we have classes just so we can say that we are at least doing something. Until we come to learn the significance of them, we will not appreciate them as we should.  If we appreciate them, then and only then will attitudes and attendance change for the...Continue reading

Preachers want Raises

Preachers want Raises Allen Webster Most Gospel preachers work well over forty hours a week. They love what they do so much that it is not uncommon for a preacher to work six days a week for eight or nine hours a day. The remain “on call” even when they are home. Some even use vacation time to preach in meetings, go on campaigns, or work at Christian camps. Not a few have given up lucrative careers to preach in areas where they have to struggle to make it financially. Why do they do it?...Continue reading

Faithfulness and Bible Study

“WE’RE ALWAYS HERE, UNLESS WE’RE GONE! W. Kent Graham             A local business in Atoka, Oklahoma, has an advertising slogan which proclaims, “We’re always here, unless we’re gone!” Every time I see this commercial I cannot help but think of some of our beloved brethren.  The story is told of a Christian who was compelled to extol his faithfulness in worshiping God. He rightly asserted that every faithful child of God is present and an eager participant at every designated Bible Study and Worship Assembly. He professed that those who were unnecessarily absent from any...Continue reading

The Cracked Pot

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on opposite ends of a pole he carried across his neck. One pot had a crack in it; the other was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master’s house.  The cracked pot arrived only half full. For two years the bearer delivered one and a half pots full of water to his master’s house daily. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments. The cracked pot was...Continue reading

What Can We Do?

This is an interesting question due to the political climate today. We think that we are just one citizen and what can we do to help.  There is always a lot we can do. One thing for sure we do not need to do nothing! That is a sure way to lose ground and let the enemy do what they please. This is also an interesting question due to our religious climate today too.  Yes, there are things you can do to help yourself and also help the church. What can you do? Here they...Continue reading

You’ve Got to be Kidding!

John had only been a Christian for a few years, but despite his newness in the faith, everyone at the business meeting that night was anxious to hear what he had to say. The subject of improving the quality of the worship services came up for discussion, and when it was his turn to speak, he addressed the men with such confidence and enthusiasm that none could help but give him careful attention. “I have a suggestion to present to the congregation which is guaranteed to dramatically improve our worship services,” he said, and then...Continue reading

Must

This week I want us to consider the word “must.” Webster defines this word as “obligated, required, compelled.” Vine’s as “impersonal verb signifying it is necessary or one must.” Strong as “third person singular active present, it is necessary.”  Then the finally dictionary Thayer defines this word as, “it is necessary, there is need of it, it behooves, is right and proper.” The word “must is used 132 times in the King James Version of the Bible. The word that is translated “must” is used 104 times in the New Testament. This word is translated...Continue reading
