Titus 2:11-14, “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” Within this passage there are some things that we are to deny ourselves. They are ungodliness and worldly lust....Continue reading

Why Did Jesus Die?

Neither Pilate nor Herod could find any reason for Jesus to die. “And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people, Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him; No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him” (Luke 23:13-15). The Jews of that day had determined...Continue reading

What is the sweetest thing to you? Is it chocolate? Is it a cake or a pie? What about someone knowing your name? “But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name” (3 John 14). What about those who are not your close friends? Did you ever have someone miss your name to your face? Memorial Day

This past week Memorial Day was celebrated. It was a time to remember those who had sacrificed for our freedom. We must continue to remember that the freedoms that we enjoy are not free. They cost us something. It has cost some life, other liberty, and others their freedom. We need to remember these brave individuals for without them we would not have the freedoms that we enjoy today. Romans 12:7 reads, “Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom...Continue reading

Was Jesus Sinless?

The Bible says, “for we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin” (Hebrews 4:15). Again the Bible says, “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow in this steps: Who did no sin neither was guile found in him mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously”...Continue reading

The Great Physician

Jesus has been called the “Great Physician.” There is a song by that title that has very good sentiments. Seven hundred and fifty years before Jesus set foot on the earth, Isaiah prophesied, “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed” (Isaiah 53:4-5). Peter quotes this passage (1 Peter 2:24) and does not apply...
