Christianity: A “Daily” Perspective
It does not take long (even for the casual reader of the New Testament) to recognize the importance that is placed upon such terms now, today, or daily! Most of us look at our schedules and calendars, and we find that our lives have become regimented by the demands placed on us at the work place, appointments here, doing this, doing that, going here, traveling there, pick-up this, deliver that, a meeting here, and a deadline there! If we are not extremely careful we can become like the one in James 4:13-15, who takes the...Continue reading
Does this Seem Ridiculous?
Hello…Yes…Oh, you’re Johnny’s teacher. I’ve been meaning to call you…No; he isn’t planning to be in school this year. You see he has so much work to do at the church – he has Bible school lessons, church services, youth activities and such takes up his time; then there are daily devotionals at home and other interests, so there isn’t time left for school… Well, yes I know that school is important, and I know that you are doing a fine job with the kids in this community – and I’ve been intending to write...Continue reading
Missing Out on a Valuable Treasure
MISSING OUT ON A VALUABLE TREASURE Mike Johnson “One person’s junk is another person’s treasure.” I am confident that almost everyone has heard that expression. We know that something, which may seem worthless to one person, may be viewed as valuable by another. The popularity of garage sales and flea markets in our country attests to this. An Associated Press story a few years ago told of a man in Texas who purchased a 1,905-carat sapphire at a gem show for $10.00. How did this happen? The purchaser by-passed the professional dealers and...Continue reading
Thank God for Small Things
Thank God for Small Things Pennies, pennies if not fake Collected one by one Will a dollar make. Do appreciate the small things. A delicate snowflake so rare Piled upon a mountain top Created a beauty for us all to share. Be thankful for small things. The small seed of spruce, birch, or pine With years and years of growth Produce a forest so fine. We thank you Lord for small things. Petals of flowers tiny and bold Scattered upon the mother earth Displays nature color to behold. Thank you for the beauty of small...Continue reading
To What Do You Belong?
A preacher was out an about urging members to attend the mid-week services of the church. He got several different replies. One said, “I belong to the ______ and that is the night that it meets.” I cannot help but wonder how many people with their names on the “church roll” really BELONG to something else. When we speak of something belonging to someone, we mean that it is his property. So do we really “BELONG” to the church, or do we just consider ourselves to be member of the church? This is a question...Continue reading
Father’s House – Heaven or the church?
In John 14:2-3 we find this message, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself: that where I am, there ye may be also.” It is interesting what some try to do to this passage. I have heard, but never have talked to a person who said that this passage refers to the church. Can that be? If so,...Continue reading
Are you a Spirit Led Person?
Is the Spirit leading you in your daily life? Yes, this is the Holy Spirit and is He leading you in your daily life? Many people in the religious world say yes to this question, but I wonder if they understand what it means to be led by the Spirit. Do YOU know what it means to be led by the Spirit? Romans 8:14, “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” How are we lead by the Spirit? How does the Holy Spirit lead us...Continue reading
Penknife Religion
We read in the weeping prophet Jeremiah’s book, “And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three of four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.” Later we find this weeping prophet to told to, “Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.” How sad to see someone treat...Continue reading
Does Baptism Sanctify an Unscriptural Relationship?
by Neil Richey The scenario is this—a man and a woman marry (both having never been married before). Neither is a Christian. After several years, the same man and woman decide to divorce (fornication is not the cause). They have clearly violated Matthew 5:32. Now suppose that the man marries again, and he is now out of ignorance living in adultery (cf. Matt 19:9). While in this relationship he is taught how to become a Christian. He is therefore baptized for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38). Question, did his baptism sanctify (make right) his...
Warning Signs
Last week we began this lesson about warning signs. We have them all around us when we drive in this area. If we do not heed them we can be in serious trouble. The Bible has warning signs contained within its pages and if we do not heed those warnings we will be in serious trouble at the last day. Please consider Matthew 25. It is a warning sign itself and tells us of that last day when Jesus shall judge us and separate us as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. Are...Continue reading
