“Breaking of Bread”

This term or ones similar are found many times in the New Testament. When it is found what does it refer to? For instance consider Acts 2:42 we find these words, “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (The study of “fellowship” will be left for another time.) These items listed are worship acts. Yet in verse 46 we find these words, “And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with...

Decisions

“Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision” Joel 3:14. We make hundreds or even thousands of decisions every day. Some are not so good and some turn out pretty good. If you were here Sunday you saw a person make a decision to follow Jesus. He put Christ on in baptism. He had his sins washed away. He was baptized for the remission of sins. This is a good decision to make. It will affect someone’s eternal destiny and maybe it will...Continue reading

Who Needs the Church?

In the book “What’s so Amazing about Grace?” by Philip Yancy a story is told of a woman who was down on her luck. She was having a miserable time and things in her life did not look like they would get any better. She was asked if she had ever thought about going to church for and with her problems. Her reply was, “why would I ever go there? I was already feeling terrible about myself. They’d just make me feel worse.” If someone was having problems in their life came to the services...Continue reading

When you see a STOP sign do you remember what one is to do beside stop the vehicle that you are in? Remember that you are not only to stop, but one is to look and listen. This is an individual that was appointed to be on the walls of the city and watch. He was to watch...Continue reading

A Four Letter Word

We are all exposed to four letter words. We hear them on the television, radio or maybe even the internet. Kids hear them at school. Rap artist have been using them and are now finally being condemned for it. Others may use these words; even some who attend the services here may use these little words. Not all four letter words are bad: love is a four letter word, so is work (some may not like this word but it is not at all a bad word); sing also is a four letter word that...Continue reading

How Do You Feel about Others?

There is much contained in the Bible about how we should feel and treat others. The Golden Rule deals with how we should treat others, “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that mean should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets” (Matthew 7:12). The parable of the Good Samaritan is answering the question of, who is my neighbor (Luke 10:29). Jesus then asks the question, “Which of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? (Luke 10:36). The lawyer answered...

In Pursuit of Christianity

When one studies the book of Colossians he is impressed with the idea of who a person is to be when he becomes a Christian. In chapter 2:12 the student will find that a person is “buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him” (2:12). Thus we are “in Christ” and are a “new creature” (2 Corinthians 5:17). We are now in pursuit of being a Christian; we are becoming the kind of person Christ wants us to become. Let us notice and think about what that involves from Colossians chapter...

Good

In the beginning God created all things and it is said by God that it was good. God created the light and it was good (Genesis 1:4). On the third day God divided the waters and the land so that land appeared and again He said it was good (Genesis 1:10). Also on the third day God created the grass, herbs, and the trees, and God saw that this was good (Genesis 1:12). On the third day there were two things that happened and it was all good according to God’s standards. On the fourth...
